DuraBase®, an Underlayment Product for Residential Roofing, Available in the West

Las Vegas, Nevada (3/6/2007) --- Johns Manville’s DuraBase®, an underlayment product for residential roofing, is now available in the West from the company’s manufacturing facility in Oklahoma. DuraBase combines the proven technology of asphalt with new non-woven polyester mat.

“DuraBase is unlike any roofing underlayment on the market today,” said Mark Turpin, product manager for Johns Manville. “It handles like conventional roofing felts, but provides the long-lasting durability of synthetics.”

DuraBase comes in a four square, 36-inch wide roll that weighs approximately 40 pounds, delivering twice as much material on a roll. DuraBase offers easy installation and maximum performance.

It provides:

  • Slip resistance—it has excellent grip in both dry and wet weather.
  • Lighter weight—it is easier to move to and on the roof.
  • Durability—it holds nails better and offers greater resistance to punctures and tears.
  • Waterproofing—its waterproofing performance is superior to felt.
  • Enhanced ultraviolet resistance—it can withstand longer sun exposure without performance deterioration.
  • Mold resistance—it does not support the growth of mold or fungus.

Easy to install, DuraBase lays flat in both warm and cold weather and requires fewer hands to lay out. It also supports the use of roofing nails or nails with caps. For even faster installation, staples can be applied with a hammer tacker or pneumatic stapler.
