BURSI Seminar Transmitted To Three Off-Site Locations

Dallas, Texas (10/31/2003) --- A Better Understanding of Roofing Systems Institute (BURSI) program, sponsored by the Johns Manville Roofing Systems Group (JM), recently was held at HKS Architects' headquarters in Dallas, and was transmitted to HKS locations in Richmond, Va., Los Angeles, Calif. and Colorado Springs, Colo. via WebEx®. This is the first time a BURSI seminar has been given simultaneously in four different locations.

"This technology allows both presenters and students to maximize the use of their time and save travel costs," said David Scheirer manager of the JM Roofing Institute.

BURSI training seminarThe audience consisted of individuals within HKS Architect's offices who have sole responsibility for producing the product specifications for all HKS projects. HKS is the largest architectural and engineering firm in Dallas/Fort Worth. It has more than 600 employees, 450 of whom are based in Dallas. HKS has projects in more than 400 cities, 44 states, the District of Columbia and 19 foreign countries.

"We work very hard to keep our specification writers on the cutting edge of product knowledge," said Walter Scarborough, HKS Architect's director of specifications. "Over the years, I've found that the Johns Manville BURSI program is the very best source for solid and current information for low-slope roofing systems. It was important to have all of our specification writers exposed to the BURSI program."

Ray Corbin, director or BURSI, Joel Lewallen, senior technical sales representative for Johns Manville, and Doug Permain, a local authority on roofing accessories and wind loads, presented the seminar. The following day, the same group presented a BURSI seminar to the Dallas chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute. It was attended by more than 65 building owners, architects, consultants and roofing contractors.
